Vive la Paris!

Paris has been drawing tons of visitors for centuries, not only due to its allure of high street fashion and cultural sights, but also having a reputation of being a city of love for 'romantic getaways'.

Most of my time here was spent visiting the main attractions and stopping for some authentic french cuisines (they really do love their croissant and baguettes).

Transport in Paris is pretty comprehensive, with their metro being pretty affordable and has extensive coverage throughout the city.

Language - While some people may speak English or a variety of European languages, French is by far the most spoken language in the area. 'Bonjour!'

Eiffel Tower

The majestic tower is a wrought iron lattice tower at the Champ de Mars. It is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built this amazing piece of architecture.

Standing tall and mighty!

If you intend to go up to one of the platforms on the tower, make sure to book in advance as otherwise you will face a ridiculous queue, which no one will enjoy. If you do pre-book, you can just walk through security.

Musée du Louvre

The Louvre museum is the world's largest art museum and a historic monument in Paris. The place houses one of the most vast collections of prehistoric paintings, sculptures and trinkets (38,000 items). The exhibition area itself is massive and spans over a whopping 72,735 square meters!

Louvre Pyramid

The area is jam-packed with visitors. I highly recommend you to buy the tickets online prior to your visit at their official site here, so as to avoid the two hour queues.

The Louvre houses many iconic art pieces such as the Mona Lisa and sculptures from Michelangelo. Many other riveting art pieces as well, dating all the way back to the roman ages.

La Jaconde ('The Mona Lisa') by Leonardo da Vinci - 1503

La Victoire de Samothrace ('The Winged Angel of Victory') - 190BC

La belle jardinière ('Madonna and Child with Saint John the Baptist') by Raphael  - 1507

Les Noces de Cana ('The Wedding at Cana') by Paolo Veronese - 1562-1563

Le Pandemonium ('The Pandemonium') by John Martin - 1841

Le Sacre de Napoléon ('The Coronation of Napolean') by Jacques-Louis David - 1807

Une Odalisque ('The Concubine') by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres - 1814

Jeanne d'Arc by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres - 1429

L'Esclave rebelle ('The Rebellious Slave') by Michaelangelo - 1513-1516

L'Esclave mourant ('The Dying Slave') by Michaelangelo - 1513-1516

Psyché ranimée par le baiser de l'Amour (Psych revived by Cupid's Kiss) by Antonio Canova - 1787

Frankly,  I can't appreciate these as much as the people who can glare at them for hours. Nonetheless, they're all still pretty intriguing to look at.

Other Noteworthy Locations

Moulin Rouge

Arc de Triomphe

Musée de l'Armée ('Army Museum')

 Montmartre ('Mountain of Martyrs')

Similar to all my other travel related posts, this one was written onsite in my hotel at Paris. If you have the time, do check out the photos that I've uploaded to Facebook and Instagram. Cheers.
