Ghost Recon Wildlands Review

The inspiration that led me to this baby was frankly due to influences from the famous Netflix originals - Narcos & El Chapo, which featured kingpin drug lords running the entire country.  Only this time, your on the other side.

The whole game is based on a team of special ops ghost operatives trying to take down a notorious drug cartel in Bolivia called the 'Santa Blanca', ran by this crazy big ass motherfucker called El Sueno.

Map view of Bolivia

Game play wise, simply put is GTA style which essentially features an open-world map where you can explore the beautiful adaptation of Bolivia, gather intel, collect equipment, shoot up some gangstas or simply follow the guided mission paths. Progression is non-linear as well.

'I've got you in my sights'

Sit-down!

Gun-fight with some sicarios (cartel 'hit men')

The game had some life to it, with characters occasionally using spanish to express certain emotions - usually vulgar. 'mierda culeros!'

  Character equipment menu

There is a large variety of equipment and attachments that you can get through simply playing the game. This gives you a lot more versatility in how you'd like to do your missions. E.g. Equipped with a noise suppressed sniper rifle from afar, or go in guns blazing with a fully automatic rifle.

Fully customisable outfits

I've even made my character look like some serious spec-ops shit, but it is fully customisable - you can even make him look like some fat hill-billy if you wished!

I quite enjoyed the story-telling as well, with how each individual buchon had their own back-stories and how you made use of those to eventually get to them, then their bosses. If you took out the full networks of 'security', 'smuggling', 'influence' and/or 'production', the game eventually lets you get your hands on El Sueno!

Basically, your working your way up the food-chain in the cartel network, which was quite intriguing to say the least.

100% Completion (story)

After 106 completed missions and 4660 enemies killed, I have completed all of the story campaign, with a fully maxed out character nonetheless. I might have rushed through the story a little, but the game was still nevertheless fun and addictive.

If you've enjoyed shows like Narcos & El Chapo and want a more active role in being immersed in similar kinds of environments, give this game a go.

P.S. Learned quite a bit of spanish - albeit vulgar, but still, that's kinda how I pick up any new language these days.
